For Venues

We list every Melbourne lifestyle venue and event organiser we can verify, free, whether or not you ever speak to us. This page explains how that works, what we publish, and how to correct anything we’ve got wrong.

What we are

An independent editorial guide to Melbourne’s lifestyle scene — a weekly events calendar and a set of guides for people trying to work out where they fit. Think city guide rather than directory.

We’re not a competitor. We don’t run events, we don’t sell tickets, and we don’t operate a venue. Every booking link on this site goes straight to you.

What listing costs

Nothing. There is no paid listing on this site, no featured placement, and no way to buy a better position. We have never accepted money from a venue and we don’t currently offer a way to.

If that ever changes, it will be visible: clearly labelled, structurally separate from editorial, and it will never alter a ranking, a review or a fact. We’d rather tell you that now than surprise you later.

What we publish, and where it comes from

Only what you publish yourself. Everything on a venue page is sourced from your own public website — your events page, your FAQ, your code of conduct. We don’t publish rumour, forum posts, or details a member has told us.

If you don’t publish it, we don’t either. Several venues release their address only on a purchased ticket. We say exactly that rather than digging it up. If your pricing isn’t published, our page says “not published” rather than guessing.

We say when we can’t verify something. If your site blocks automated access, or is built in a way we can’t read reliably, we publish the limited set we’re confident about and tell readers that’s what we’ve done.

We date it. Every venue page carries the date we last checked it.

What we send you

Readers who reach a venue page are people actively deciding where to go this weekend. When they click through, they arrive at your booking page ready to book.

We count those outbound clicks, per venue, per month. Aggregate numbers only — no cookies, no visitor tracking, no personal data of any kind. We’re happy to tell you how many we’ve sent you; just ask.

Corrections — and they take priority

If something on your page is wrong, out of date, or reads unfairly, tell us and we’ll fix it quickly. A correction from a venue outranks anything we’ve inferred, and we don’t argue about it.

That includes:

  • Entry policies, audience rules or door times that have changed
  • Pricing we’ve reported inaccurately
  • Facilities or event formats we’ve described wrongly
  • Anything you consider misrepresents the venue

If you’d rather not be listed at all, say so and we’ll remove you. No argument, no conditions, no “but our readers benefit”. It’s your business.

Getting your events listed

The weekend calendar is rebuilt every Monday from venues’ own published listings. Two ways to make sure yours are in it:

Publish them on your own site — a public events page is all we need, and it’s how we pick most listings up already.

Or send them to usthe submission form takes about a minute. Free, no account needed.

The most useful things to include, in order: who the night is for (the single most common reason someone turns up to the wrong event), what it costs, when the door closes, and the dress code.

If you’d rather add us to your announcement list or media list, that works too — email us and we’ll take it from there.

What we won’t do

  • Sell tickets, or sit between you and your customers
  • Take commission on a booking
  • Run affiliate links
  • Publish your address if you don’t
  • Publish photographs of anyone at your venue
  • Accept payment to change a ranking or a fact

A note on how we write about venues

We’re a guide, not a marketing channel, so the tone is neutral-positive rather than promotional. We’ll say who a venue suits and who it doesn’t, because a reader who turns up to the wrong night has a bad time and blames you.

Where we describe something as a drawback — distance, a strict dress code, a restrictive door policy — it’s to help the right people self-select, not to criticise. In our experience that sends you better-matched guests, not fewer.

We’re run anonymously, which we know is unusual for a publication asking you to trust it. It’s for the same reason your guests value discretion. It doesn’t change how we handle corrections or how quickly we respond. See also: our editorial policy and about this guide.
