Melbourne’s big-ticket nights: the produced balls and themed parties that run a few times a year rather than every weekend. They’re a different experience from the weekly venues, and they need more planning.
Most of the Melbourne scene runs on weekly venue calendars — see the venue guides for those. The events below are the other half: large-scale productions in hired rooms, with costume requirements, advance ticketing and, in one case, an invitation list.
Saints & Sinners Ball
The biggest name on the Melbourne adult calendar, and the most strictly dress-coded — the organisers publish it as “No Effort. No Entry. No Refund.”

Running since 2004, built around theatrical production and its Midnight Show. The organisers are explicit that it is not a swingers party — go with the right expectations.
How the big events differ from the weekly venues
- Scale changes everything. Hundreds of people and a nightclub sound system make for a very different night from a bar with thirty people in it. Conversation is harder; atmosphere is bigger.
- The room changes. Because these are produced in hired venues, the address moves between editions. Always check the current listing.
- Costume is a condition, not a suggestion. Both operators treat dress as part of the event, and one of them enforces it at the door.
- Book well ahead. These sell in advance, and refund policies are strict.
